25
I’m publishing this piece right as I turn 25 years old. An age that is still considered ‘young’ from a human life perspective, but old enough to know a lot of things.
Here are 25 things I’ve learned over the past 25 years:
🤝 Choose your friends wisely. The ‘right’ friends make you a better person!
🥔 It’s okay to be a ‘couch potato’ once in a while. If you wake up one day and do nothing all day; just lying around. It’s okay, just reset your body and mind.
🍳 Learning to cook is important (especially for guys). At least be able to cook basic foods like rice, eggs, meat/chicken, vegetables, and instant noodles!
🎁 Self-rewarding is allowed. You work to survive, treat yourself to something you really want once in a while.
😎 Confidence will make you look attractive.
⚽ Take care of your body. Exercise, SHOWER, get enough sleep, drink enough water, use skincare if needed.
🦷 Take care of your teeth! Brush your teeth, floss, and get regular check-ups at the dentist. Toothaches are no fun.
🍚 Eat healthy and eat regularly! Don’t let yourself get gastritis or GERD; it feels awful and is a hassle!
🏆 Comparing yourself to others only makes you sad. The Quarter Life Crisis will definitely come, but it’s up to you how to face it.
📚 Never stop learning new things. No matter how small; like how to make hash browns, how to play the guitar, and so on.
📧 Have a professional email address. Stop using aricookiemonster@gmail.com or ariselalusalah@yahoo.com and DON’T FORGET YOUR PASSWORD.
🎈 Being a good person is important, but knowing when to set aside your ego is a sign of maturity.
📅 Not everything will go according to your plan.
💰 Be frugal, but don’t be stingy.
❤️ Always love and respect your parents, no matter what happens!
🎮 Have a hobby or side project. Humans love stimulation. If you feel like your life is ‘just the same’, it might be because your creativity hasn’t been stimulated in a while.
😊 Being single doesn’t mean you have to feel lonely and confused every day.
🏁 Always start before you feel ready! Start doing something when you don’t feel 100% ready, because you’ll never feel 100% ready.
❌ Learn to say no! Don’t always be a ‘yes man’, or you’ll be taken advantage of by others.
🎯 Always seize every opportunity that comes your way. It’s better to regret failing than to regret not trying.
🔎 Be critical of everyone. Don’t just ‘follow the crowd’. Learn to ask questions before following/believing in something.
💸 Save money and have insurance! Start learning about investments, insurance, and finances for the future.
🙏 Always be grateful for what you have.
✍️ Learn to write. Not to write a novel, but there are many things in life that require writing skills: writing job applications, letters of recommendation, written reports, proposals, and so on.
🤬 Don’t start a chat with “P”. First, because it’s rude, second, because it’s rude, third, because it’s rude.
